Hello and Greetings from Accra! 

We’re halfway through 2026, and grateful that you’re here! We invite you to walk the talk with us as we catalyse community ecological care. Here’s a few things we’ve been up to recently:

Community members and the work of our team are featured in the Human Natures exhibition at the Manchester Museum in the UK through October! This travelling exhibition speaks to the truth that there is Too Much Clothing and Not Enough Justice. In so doing it shines a light on some of the solutions to the global crisis of overproduction and overconsumption. The literal backdrop to the exhibition is our Cassaboard fibreboard made from otherwise unsellable clothing collected in Kantamanto Market that is shredded before being blended with cassava starch, showing that solutions brewed right here in Accra have a global reach. Kantamanto designers emerging through our ReManufacturing Training programmes are also featured in the Foose Fashion: Carry Your Own exhibition in Sandviken, Sweden. This exhibition will run until 23, August 2026.

One of our program participants, Najiha Yahaya, who has shown the work of her brand Dinnani (which means it’s possible in her native Dagbani) in both Sweden and the UK, was also featured in a beautiful article by writer Whitney Bauck. The article Meet the Women Carrying the Weight of Fast Fashion follows the story of Najiha and several of her peers in our Mabilgu Program accompanying women out of the kayayei trade in Kantamanto Market and reveals some of the findings of our chiropractic research on the causes, conditions and effects of dangerous headcarrying. Whitney also describes a preview of Zjili, our feature-length film inspired by true events that sits as the centrepiece of our campaign to End Dangerous Headcarrying. 

Bell Ribeiro-Addy
Nearly every day we open our spaces in Accra to allies from around the world who share our vision for a Justice-led circular textile economy. One of our guests this past month was Bell Ribeiro-Addy, Member of Parliament for Clapham & Brixton Hill in the UK, who joined us on an immersive tour of our facilities to witness our circular solutions and meet community members.

Rotary Club Accra
We also hosted the Rotary Club of Accra at one of our weekly Tide Turners beach cleanup. Over 270 people gathered at Kinshasha Beach, Jamestown, Accra. Together, we removed 33,511 kg of textile and other plastic waste in under three hours. Seeing everyone work side-by-side to restore our beaches is the exact kind of community ecological care that reminds us why walking together is the way to move!

Meet our incredible Remanufactory team led by Nabi Yankey, featuring upcycling brands KOMA ARC, Dinnani, women-led business Kuoro Earth, K.A Khadis Fashion, Calcul and Apprica Toggery. • Hamburg! 29th-30th of June 2026: Mary Sarkodie, Vice President of Kantamanto Women's Association, and Liz Ricketts, Co-Founder of The Or Foundation, will speak on the efforts underway to change the face of fashion from the world's largest reuse market.

• Accra! We carry out weekly beach clean ups through our community cooperative the Tide Turners. You’re invited to join us for these cleanups every Tuesday at Kinshasha Beach, Jamestown, Accra (behind the Ussher Fort).
